Welcome Emily Kriehn to gokc!
It’s my pleasure to introduce everyone to Emilly, as she is our newest Therapist at gokc. She has a rich and diverse experience helping throughout her career and brings a tremendous skill set - we are lucky to have Emily join us! I’ll let her words tell you a little more about herself.
You are the main character in your own life; you create the narrative through your thoughts, feelings, relationships, and decisions. I love being a part of people's stories and helping them find self-compassion, joy, and a greater understanding of who they are and want to be. I accept people as they are, where they are, and honor the truths with which I am trusted.
I believe in connection. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy, internal family systems theory, dialectical behavioral therapy, and other interventions to help guide my clients on their journeys. But I don't think any of that helps unless there is a genuine and trusting relationship. I want to get to know you--your hopes, dreams, fears, worries--your story. I would love to help you write the next chapter.

Relationships
I love working with people who have experienced childhood abuse, neglect, disordered relationships, and chaos. Attachment wounds and complex trauma are incredibly painful. People who spent all or some of their childhoods with people other than their birth parents--foster care, adoptions, residential placements, hospitals. People who are now trying to show up in healthy ways as partners, parents, siblings, friends.
Some of the most fulfilling work I've done in my career was working with children and adolescents in out-of-home placements--juvenile detention, emergency shelter, residential treatment. Trauma. I see these kids in the adults with whom I now work.
It's time to understand how beliefs and coping strategies were developed and decide what to keep and what to let go.
